Great results for SunCon

Photon, the most respected name in photovoltaic trade magazines, recently conducted tests of different brands of connectors used in photovoltaic applications. A total of 19 different connectors were tested.

Test Criteria:

  • Force measurements (insertion and withdrawal force of the plug, withdrawal force of cable)
  • Thermography and transition resistance
  • Protection type and insulation resistance

Test Results:

SunCon

Hirschmann’s SunCon connector earned a very respectable 4th place ranking. If the two-pole Amphenol connector, which was rated #1, is not considered because of it’s many differences with the other 18 connectors tested (“regarded separately”, see page 200), SunCon was rated 3rd best.

SunCon performed well in all areas of the tests and was judged “good”. The average marks for SunCon in the testing were 2.0. NOTE: range from 1 (very good) to 6 (very bad)

SunCon had no problems with it’s environment protection, but 1/3 of the tested products did experience problems.

A comment of the test results emphasizes SunCon’s easy disconnection and the connector system’s small dimensions.

SunCon’s ease of assembly wasn’t taken into consideration as part of the actual testing, but it did receive a special and positive mention:

“You just need one tool to strip and crimp the Hirschmann connector.”

Last but not least, pricing was not taken into consideration as part of the actual testing, but the test results include an overview table with price comparisons of the connectors.
